Delicious, warming afternoon coffee substitute ...

I'm one of those "cold people." I find it really difficult to stay warm in the winter months, and I can hear many of you shout “It’s not even cold on the far north coast of Australian”, but for me it is. I long to have a personal heater next to me constantly (but i don’t), I wear thermals (double layers), I take the kind of showers that could boil a lobster and I hang out way too long in the infrared light sauna.

Just writing about being cold makes me cold. So, while delicious superfood smoothies are the name of my breakfast or dinners during the warmer months, they do present one problem for people like me: they’re cold! And in the winter, there’s no possible way anything cold is passing by my lips. it’s all about the HEAT.

Cast you mind to the Puna area of the Peruvian Andes --- the indigenous region of the superfood maca!! I don’t think you will run into many cold smoothies there. This area is largely treeless and barren, with intense sun, relentless fierce winds, and drastic temperature fluctuations that often drop below freezing temperatures at sunset, this is a landscape where nothing can grow … except for maca.

In fact, not only does maca manage to battle the elements, it actually thrives in them. Harvested primarily for its radish-like, nutrient-rich root, maca is what’s known as an adaptogenic food. Just as the maca plant adapts and adjusts to the hardships of its growing region, when ingested, it amazingly has a similar effect on the body – helping balance stress and maintain a state of biological equilibrium. Research shows maca’s adaptogenic compounds directly support the adrenal glands to help regulate hormones and enhance energy without being a stimulant.

Maca is a true power food. Though maca is frequently touted as a superfood smoothie staple, in Peru, maca’s earthy sweetness is traditionally enjoyed warm: often mixed into porridge, or boiled into a hot drink. I can attest, there’s something truly wonderful about a little maca powder mixed into a cosy warm drink.

Hence the idea behind the creamy “Body Fuel Stress Harmony Blend Turmeric Latte” with 1 heaped tsp of Body Fuel’s Red Maca. Earthy, warming, nutty, and surprisingly delicious, this drink a great way to restore energy – try it in the place of coffee in the afternoon and see how you feel.

Whatever way you make it, the instinctual good feeling of hot maca is something you must try to believe. Even if you’re not a cold person.

If you would like to try my original “Stress Harmony Blend Turmeric Latte” please get in touch and I can send you the details for collection or mail order.

My contribution is a union of nutrition, mindfulness, meditation, breathwork & movement intertwined with behaviour change and how it impacts a life worth living.

As a health and fitness professional, I want to shift the paradigm toward one of self-love and self-care instead of an aesthetic insecurity-based industry. Let’s move away from the trail of being overweight, body shape dissatisfaction, the daily dose of pharmaceutical and social drugs, persistent envy, unhappiness, anxiety, depression, and a life full of pressure to keep up, skip steps, and rush.

Living without awareness and intention creates pressures that we are not doing, we are not moving fast enough, as bosses, workers, weekend warriors, friends, lovers, parents, siblings, or grandparents. We have to be able and willing to step outside the pull of unhealthy and unhealthful cultural norms and make the critical space to do our meaningful thinking.

The first thing I need people to take in is if they are going to work with me or read my work because for me this re-frames the core of moving through all obstacles we have around stress, rush, health, weight, etc … The very blantant truth is that living under the guise of society’s expectations - is not living.

We have been fed a narrative that stepping outside or away from norms is the wrong way to exist and this narrative furthers unhappiness, unhealthiness, pressure, and a life that is too fast to enjoy.

Wherever we are, this is life—it’s happening right now, and I’ve decided that I am not going to rush through it and I invite you to join me today …
